WHO: Chester County students entering second through sixth grades are invited to register and attend GSK Science in the Summer™, a free enrichment program celebrating 30 years of bringing fun, hands-on science learning to more than 150,000 elementary students. Sponsored by GSK and administered by The Franklin Institute in partnership with local libraries, GSK Science in the Summer™ courses are taught by certified teachers with exciting experiments that introduce core scientific principles to students at a young age while exposing them to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) learning.
WHAT: This summer, Chester County elementary students will have the opportunity to take a course in Genetics. Students will investigate human chromosomes and genes by building a cell, examining their own fingerprints and constructing a DNA molecule. They'll even extract DNA from a strawberry!
WHEN: In Chester County, GSK Science in the Summer™ classes take place over four days, with one-hour sessions each day. Unless otherwise noted, class times are:
Level 1 (Students who will be entering 2nd or 3rd grade in Fall 2016): 9:45 am – 10:45 am (morning) or 12:45 pm – 1:45 pm (afternoon)
Level 2 (Students who will be entering 4th -6th grade in Fall 2016): 11:00 am – 12:00 pm (morning) or 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm (afternoon)
Students must be registered to attend this program. Registration is available online only beginning May 3 at www.scienceinthesummer.com.
