The Barn Visitors Center & The John Chads House
Monday, February 17th
10AM - 2PM
In honor of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln's birthdays, the John Chads House will be open for tours. In 1777, General George Washington positioned his soldiers on the hillside next to the John Chads House, while a nervous widow Elizabeth Chads hid her silver spoons in her pocket.
Costumed Guides will lead tours of the little stone mansion that survived the Battle of Brandywine and tell about its fascinating history. Don't miss bread baking in the beehive oven in the cellar kitchen! Visitors can walk along the scenic one-mile River Trail from the Chads House to the Brandywine River Museum.
Tours of the John Chads House are $5 for adults; members of the Chadds Ford Historical Society and children 12 and under are free. There will be many exhibits and special activities for children and adults at the Visitors Center, free of charge.
